Empowering the voiceless in Florida, our nonprofit weaves a safety net for displaced women, foster adults, and veterans, turning their stories of struggle into tales of hope and home.

In the heart of Florida, within the bustling streets of Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Volusia Counties, there are stories waiting to be told. Stories of resilience, hope, and the search for a place to call home. These are the tales of displaced women, foster adults, and retired veterans.

Journey of Displaced Women

Imagine being a mother, fleeing at night to protect your children from an abusive partner. Or losing your job and watching the walls of your home crumble around you. For 30% of displaced women, domestic violence is the shadow they're trying to escape. 45% are single mothers, and 25% have faced sudden unemployment. Their challenges? Fear for safety, battling societal stigma, and the constant worry of providing for their children.

The Crossroads of Foster Adults

Turning 18 should be a celebration. But for many foster adults, it's a crossroads filled with uncertainty. Without the safety net of a family or the system, 40% find themselves without a roof over their heads. They grapple with the basics of life skills, often feeling isolated in a world that seems to have moved on without them.

Battles Beyond the Battlefield for Retired Veterans

The battlefield may be behind them, but for many veterans, a new battle begins at home. With 20% grappling with PTSD and 15% facing physical disabilities, transitioning to civilian life is challenging. The camaraderie of the force is replaced with the isolation of being misunderstood.

The Common Thread - The Search for Home

Despite their varied backgrounds, one need binds them all - the search for safe housing. A staggering 70% of these groups are in dire need of a secure place. Support services, like counseling and job training, are sought after by 60%. And half of them yearn for a community, a sense of belonging.

The Current Landscape

While many find solace in recovery residences, shelters, and transitional housing, the numbers tell a story of disparity. 15% of displaced women, foster adults, and veterans still navigate life without any housing assistance in Florida.

“When I returned from service, the world seemed alien. The weight of PTSD was suffocating. But then, I found a shared housing initiative. It wasn't just about the roof over my head but about finding a community that understood.”
